Born in Malta on 1887, Corto Maltese disappeared in the whirl of the Spanish civil war, fighting for the Republic. Hugo Pratt (1927 - 1995) begun to tell the tale of the adventurous life of this sailor, poet, incurable romanticist and freedom fighter in the year 1968. In his lifetime he published twelve books on this impressive saga - over 1200 tableaux, acknowledged as the very peak of modern 20th Century art long time ago.
For the first time in our culture, Pratt's Corto Maltese opus is being presented in its original form - as a cycle of books. KOMUNA has published the first seven books, with the extraordinary translation of Nikola Djordjevic:
