Copperfield was born on 16 September 1956 as David Seth Kotkin; as a boy, he practiced magic as Davino the Boy Magician at the birthday celebrations and parties in his hometown Methucen, New Jersey.

He soon became the youngest member of the Society of American Magicians and when he was 16, he started teaching a course in magic at University of New York, not even dreaming that he would be honored with a flying likeness in wax by London’s Madame Tussauds and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The fact that that he has assigned a task to himself to save the history of magic and its art testifies to how much Copperfield “has been living his magic”, that is why he has made his Museum in Nevada. There is plenty of historical documents and books dealing with magic and illusion in this space – The International Museum and Library of the Conjuring Arts.

In his career, Copperfield has made Statue of Liberty vanish, walked through the Great Wall of China and flown over the Grand Canyon although he still insists that his greatest success is Project Magic, meant to be the rehabilitation program to help disabled patients regain lost or damaged dexterity skills by using sleight-of-hand magic as a method of physical therapy.

Such an approach to curing has been used in a thousand hospitals in more than 30 countries.

Copperfield performs in more than 500 shows a year. He was knighted by the French government, his face graces the postage stamps in a few countries, and he is famous for a long relationship with Claudia Schiffer, one of the most beautiful women in the world and a model.
