View the project →Komuna was founded in 1985 as a private music production and publishing house, giving music authors from the region more artistic freedom.
Komuna released records that marked the Yugoslav music scene. Its cooperation with Polygram from France and Greece opened the international market.
Alongside established artists, Komuna released young authors, especially in the years when it organised the Budva Festival - the festival hits came out on the Komuna label.
Komuna co-produced Emir Kusturica's Underground, winner of the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 1995.
Komuna also produced Savior by Predrag Antonijević, Barking at the Stars by Zdravko Šotra, Black Cat, White Cat by Emir Kusturica (Silver Lion for Best Director, Venice 1998), The Secret of Family Treasure by Aleksandar Đorđević and the short film My Homeland by Miloš Radović, awarded at 35 international festivals. Partners on these films were production companies from the USA (Oliver Stone & IEG) and from Germany and France (Pandora, CIBY 2000). For television Komuna made drama series and music and documentary programmes, including Once Upon a Time There Was a Country by Emir Kusturica and Family Treasure and Here Come the Dollars by Siniša Pavić.

Concerts came before Komuna itself.
Maksa Ćatović showed his passion for big music events as early as the 70s, at the famous Bijelo Dugme concert at Hajdučka Česma. Since then Komuna has brought dozens of major concerts to halls and open-air venues, as well as shows such as David Copperfield, the Chinese Circus and the Harlem Globetrotters.
