The famous Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti gave a memorable concert at Belgrade’s "Pionir" sports hall before more than four thousand people. Accompanied by the Camerata Serbica orchestra under the baton of Leone Magiera, Pavarotti was joined on stage by guest artist, Italian soprano Simona Todaro.
The concert lasted about two and a half hours, and the program featured Italian canzoni as well as arias from the operas "La Bohème" and "Tosca".
As a United Nations Messenger of Peace, Pavarotti declared that he always stands for peace, and to that end sang "Ave Maria" together with Simona Todaro.
The audience greeted the end of the concert on its feet, sending off with minutes-long applause the great artist who had launched his international career 44 years earlier, right here in Belgrade, performing in the opera "La Traviata".
Last night’s concert in Belgrade closed with the "Drinking Song" from "La Traviata", which he sang with his guest and the enthusiastic audience.
The famous Italian tenor has announced that he will retire from opera on his seventieth birthday in September this year. The Belgrade concert is part of his farewell tour.
