Synopsis

The famous illusionist David Copperfield, “the modern Houdini” and one of the ten most sought-after entertainers in the world, performed his show “An Intimate Evening of Grand Illusion” at Belgrade Arena on October 2, 2005, as part of his European tour. The Belgrade Arena was sold out.

Copperfield was born David Seth Kotkin on September 16, 1956. As a boy he performed as “Davino: Boy Magician” at birthday parties and celebrations in his hometown of Metuchen, New Jersey.

He soon became the youngest member of The Society of American Magicians, and at 16 he began teaching magic at New York University, never dreaming that he would one day have his own figure at Madame Tussauds in London and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

How fully Copperfield “lives his magic” is shown by the fact that he set himself the task of preserving the history of magic and its art, and founded a museum in Nevada for that purpose. The International Museum and Library of the Conjuring Arts holds a wealth of historical documents and books on magic and illusion.

Over his career Copperfield has made the Statue of Liberty disappear, walked through the Great Wall of China and flown over the Grand Canyon, yet he insists that his greatest achievement is “Project Magic”, a rehabilitation program for people with physical disabilities, motor impairments and learning difficulties, designed to help them regain their self-confidence.

This approach to therapy is now used in a thousand hospitals in more than 30 countries.

Copperfield performs more than 500 shows a year. He has received a French state honor, several countries have issued postage stamps bearing his image, and he is also known for his long relationship with one of the most beautiful women in the world - model Claudia Schiffer.
